Thing 11

Being a special educator, I have had experience with UD before. I attended a conference session about universal design at MACUL last March. My notes are all at school but I do recall the presenter talking about the extensive podcast collection at the state level of high school text books. While I can't take advantage of that, maybe some of my colleagues could look into it, I'll blog the info as soon as I get back into work and look at my notes. I also have software that does much like the "read the words" site. I received this software as part of the STELA project through the Monroe ISD.The Dial2Do reminder that I emailed myself came out with a few missing words, but I like the fact that you could listen to it also.

I think MANY or MOST of our students would rather speak their assignments, rather than have to write them down. So much time is spent teaching keyboarding these days, and if students can have a computer transcribe their speech for them, what a huge time saver that would be! Especially for students who may struggle with writing and/or keyboarding.
